Why Termite Control Is Critical

Termites can remain hidden for years, silently eating away at wood structures, walls, and floors. By the time you notice signs of an infestation, severe damage may have already occurred. Common in Florida, both subterranean and drywood termites thrive in warm, moist environments. Professional termite control is essential to prevent further destruction and protect your home from costly repairs.

Signs of Termite Infestation

Termite infestations can remain hidden for long periods before visible damage appears. Recognizing the warning signs early can help prevent costly structural repairs.

Common signs of termite activity include:
✔ Termite droppings (frass) near wood surfaces
✔ Mud tubes along foundations or walls
✔ Discarded wings near windows or doors
✔ Hollow or damaged wood
✔ Swarming termites inside the home

If you notice any of these signs, scheduling a professional termite inspection is recommended.

Florida Termites We Treat

Florida is home to several termite species capable of causing serious structural damage to homes and businesses. Because each species behaves differently, identifying the type of termite involved is an important step in determining the most effective treatment approach. At My Son & I Pest Control, our technicians are experienced in identifying and treating the most common termite species found throughout South Florida, Tampa Bay, and Central Florida.

Drywood Termites

Drywood termites live inside wooden structures and are one of the most destructive termite species in Florida. Drywood termites live entirely inside dry wood, such as walls, framing, attics, and furniture, with no soil contact required. Signs include sand-like frass pellets and hollow-sounding wood. Whole-structure termite tenting and fumigation is often the most effective treatment for eliminating drywood termite infestations.

Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites live in underground colonies and travel through mud tubes to reach wood structures. They are common throughout Florida and typically treated with liquid soil barriers or baiting systems rather than fumigation.

Formosan Termites

Formosan termites are an aggressive type of subterranean termite capable of causing extensive structural damage due to their large colony sizes. Formosan colonies can contain hundreds of thousands of individuals and cause structural damage at a much faster rate than other species. Especially prevalent in South Florida’s older and coastal construction. Often requires structural fumigation due to colony size.

Dampwood Termites

Dampwood termites prefer moist or decaying wood and are often associated with water damage or high humidity conditions. Less common in standard construction, but these termites can cause significant damage in properties with moisture problems. Treatment typically requires addressing the moisture source alongside termite control.

Structural Termite Fumigation

For widespread drywood termite infestations, structural fumigation, also known as termite tenting, may be the most effective treatment option.
Fumigation allows professional fumigants to penetrate throughout the entire structure, eliminating termites hidden inside walls, ceilings, and structural wood.
My Son & I Pest Control specializes in structural termite fumigation performed by licensed in-house crews, ensuring the highest level of quality and safety.

My experience with this fumigation company was excellent. They not only guided me through the preparation process, but they also provided bags to store medications and food to prevent contamination. Furthermore, they were very friendly and trustworthy. I didn't lose a single thing. On top of that, I compared prices with other companies, and believe me, what they charged me to fumigate my house was much less than the others. I highly recommend them.
