Professional Mosquito Prevention for Homes & Businesses
Mosquitoes are one of the most common outdoor pests in Florida, and their populations can grow quickly in warm, humid environments. Standing water, dense vegetation, and shaded areas provide ideal breeding conditions that allow mosquitoes to multiply rapidly around homes and businesses. Without proper mosquito prevention, these pests can quickly take over outdoor spaces and make it difficult to enjoy your yard.
At My Son & I Pest Control, we provide professional mosquito prevention services designed to reduce mosquito populations and prevent them from returning. Our technicians use targeted mosquito control treatments to address breeding areas, eliminate active mosquitoes, and help protect your property from future infestations. By combining effective treatment methods with preventative strategies, we help create a more comfortable outdoor environment for your family and guests.
Why Professional Mosquito Prevention Is Important
Mosquitoes are more than just a nuisance pest. They are known carriers of several diseases and can make outdoor activities uncomfortable for families, pets, and guests. Because mosquitoes reproduce quickly in small amounts of standing water, even minor water sources around a property can lead to large mosquito populations if not addressed.
Professional mosquito prevention helps reduce mosquito activity around your home by targeting the areas where mosquitoes live, rest, and breed. Early mosquito control treatment can significantly reduce mosquito populations and help prevent recurring infestations throughout the season.

Comprehensive
Inspection
Every mosquito control treatment begins with a detailed inspection of your property. Our technicians identify mosquito breeding sites such as standing water in flower pots, clogged gutters, birdbaths, and other areas to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.
Customized Treatment Plan
After the inspection, we develop a tailored mosquito control plan designed to target both adult mosquitoes and their breeding grounds. This plan may include a combination of eco-friendly larvicides, adulticides, and habitat modification strategies to significantly reduce mosquito populations.
Treatment Application
Our treatment solutions target mosquitoes at every stage of their life cycle. We apply safe, effective products that eliminate larvae in stagnant water and reduce adult mosquito populations. These treatments are designed to protect your property while being safe for your family and pets.
Monitoring and Prevention
After treatment, we provide guidance on how to prevent mosquitoes from returning by eliminating standing water and other breeding sites. Our team also offers regular follow-up treatments to maintain a mosquito-free environment throughout the year.

Mosquito Prevention & Treatment Methods
Effective mosquito prevention requires more than simply spraying visible pests. Because mosquitoes breed in standing water and rest in shaded vegetation, controlling them requires targeting both adult mosquitoes and developing larvae. At My Son & I Pest Control, we use a combination of professional mosquito prevention and treatment methods designed to quickly reduce mosquito populations while addressing breeding areas around your property. Our technicians focus on treating high-activity zones such as shrubs, shaded landscaping, and water sources to help create a more comfortable outdoor environment for your family and guests.
Mosquito Fogging Treatments
Mosquito fogging is one of the most effective methods for quickly reducing adult mosquito populations. This treatment involves using a specialized fogging machine that disperses fine droplets of insecticide throughout your yard, targeting mosquitoes where they rest. The fog penetrates dense vegetation, shady areas, and other places where mosquitoes hide during the day.
Mosquito Barrier Sprays
Barrier sprays provide longer-lasting mosquito control by creating a protective shield around your property. Our technicians apply an insecticide to shrubs, trees, and other vegetation where mosquitoes rest, which kills mosquitoes on contact and provides ongoing protection. This treatment is designed to last for several weeks and can be reapplied regularly for continuous coverage.
Larvicide Treatments
Larvicide treatments target mosquito larvae before they have the chance to mature into biting adults. These treatments are applied to standing water sources, such as ponds, birdbaths, or rain gutters, where mosquitoes breed. The larvicide prevents mosquito larvae from developing into adults, stopping the problem at its source.

Mosquito Prevention FAQs
Florida’s warm, tropical climate and frequent rain provide the perfect environment for mosquitoes to thrive. Mosquitoes breed in standing water, such as ponds, birdbaths, gutters, and even small puddles, which are abundant due to the region’s rainy season. The warm temperatures allow mosquitoes to breed year-round, with higher activity during the humid summer months.
To prevent mosquitoes from breeding around your home, eliminate sources of standing water:
Empty containers: Remove water from flowerpots, buckets, and outdoor toys.
Clean gutters: Ensure gutters are free of debris so water can flow and not pool.
Change water: Refresh birdbaths and pet water dishes at least once a week.
Mosquitoes bite humans because female mosquitoes require a blood meal to produce eggs. When they bite, mosquitoes inject saliva into the skin, which contains an anticoagulant that prevents blood from clotting while they feed. It’s this saliva that causes the itchy red bumps associated with mosquito bites. Male mosquitoes, on the other hand, do not bite and instead feed on nectar and other plant juices.
Mosquitoes can transmit several dangerous diseases to humans, including:
Zika virus: Can cause birth defects if contracted during pregnancy.
Dengue fever: Causes flu-like symptoms and, in severe cases, hemorrhagic fever.
West Nile virus: Typically results in mild symptoms but can cause neurological complications in severe cases.
Chikungunya virus: Causes severe joint pain and fever.
Malaria: Though rare in the U.S., it is a serious disease spread by mosquitoes in other parts of the world.
Yes, mosquitoes can spread diseases to pets, especially dogs. The most common threat to pets is heartworm disease, which is transmitted through mosquito bites. Heartworm larvae enter a dog’s bloodstream and grow into adult worms that live in the heart and lungs, potentially causing serious health issues or death if untreated. Regular use of heartworm prevention medication is crucial to protect pets from this dangerous disease.
The lifespan of a mosquito depends on the species and environmental conditions, but typically ranges from 2 weeks to several months. Female mosquitoes generally live longer than males. While males live about a week, females can live for several weeks, depending on access to food (blood for egg production) and environmental factors like temperature and humidity. Some mosquitoes can hibernate during colder months and survive for several months before becoming active again.
