Common Florida Pests
Bugs in South Florida are a part of life that many of us are familiar with. Thanks to the tropical weather, South Florida residents often share their living space with many common household pests. Spiders, fleas, ants, ticks, roaches, and many other common insects found in Florida may be trying to share your home with you.
Ants
With Florida being home to 32 different species of ants, this is the most common household pest among Florida bugs. Depending on the region, you can find many different kinds of ants; such as the Ghost Ant (also known as the sugar ant) to the Fire ant, whose sting burns like fire. As a Florida homeowner you may have noticed an ant or two along the sink or around kitchen counters. No big deal, you might think: it’s just a few ants, right? Nope. Since ants are social creatures, those few Florida ants may represent a nearby colony, with hundreds or thousands of ants just a few feet away.
Fleas & Ticks
Another common pest found in Florida are fleas and ticks. These sneaky pests often hitch a ride on the family cat or dog in spring or summer, only to infest your home, lay eggs and inflict painful bites. Worse still, ticks can carry Lyme disease. Roaches, love to chow down on small, unseen food crumbs or drink spills in the kitchen or living room area. Often they gravitate towards damp areas often found under bathroom or kitchen sinks.
